And the Lord Appeared to Him
|
One of the things I love about beginning a new year is that I begin again my Bible in a
year reading program. For the past few years I’ve made a commitment to read
through my Bible every year and every year the Word hits me with a new and
profound truth. By new and profound, I mean I read something I’ve read before, but
because of where I am at the time, it hits me like something “new and profound.”
This year the truth that has hit me it the truth that God is always with us. This truth
is evident from the very first book of the Bible. In Genesis chapter 26 the Lord tells
Isaac, “I am the God of your father Abraham, do not fear for I am with you…” The
Lord made a covenant and He is always true to that covenant. Again and again, from
Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reaffirms this truth: God is always with believers, he
never leaves and the last thing He wants is for them to fear that He will leave.
Joshua 3:7 “As I was with Moses I will be with you.”
Judges 6:12 “The Lord is with you, mighty man of valor.”
Isaiah 41:12 “Fear not, for I am with you.”
Matt 1:23 “...they shall call His name Immanuel which translated means “God with us.”
The very name of Jesus, the Savior is meant to convey to us this truth: God is with
us, He will never leave us, we have nothing to fear.
Yea Though I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow

Psalm 23 is probably a Psalm everyone is familiar with. Penned by David, it’s a short
Psalm packed with anxiety busting comfort. Through every aspect of life, not only
the difficult ones, but thankfully especially near when things are tough, God is with
us. He provides food, shelter, rest and comfort for us in any and all seasons of life.
As I read the Psalm I have to wonder why I ever worry. In the Bible the promises of
God are Yea and Amen. I need to never forget or lose sight of the profoundly simple
truth the my God is always with me and He won’t let go.

“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire , you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:1-12
“...and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age, amen.” Matt 28:20
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus Our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
